2025 - 2028 Public Spaces Protection Order
A Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) is made under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime & Policing Act 2014. It means that anti-social behaviour may be dealt with by the issuing of a £100 Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) by a Police Officer, Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) and District Council Enforcement staff. Maximum fine up to £1,000.
The Order has been refreshed and revised, taking effect from 21st November 2025 for a period of 3 years, until 20th November 2028 when it will be reviewed.
The Order (please check site signage for any restrictions that apply) includes restrictions / controls, in various public parks and open spaces throughout the Dales, on:
- Dog fouling and dog control
- Consumption of alcohol
- Ban of camping
- Ban of Driving and Parking
- Ban of Open fires and BBQs
- Prohibition of open fires and BBQs on Moorland
Consultation on the current Order took place in Summer 2025, with the outcome and officer recommendations reported to the Community & Environment Committee on the 11th September 2025.

2025 - 2028 Prohibition of open fires and BBQS on Moorland
With regard to the BBQs and Fires control, the District Council will be extending the prohibited activities to include:-
- The lighting of fires;
- The lighting or use of stoves, barbecues and other devices using an open flame;
- The discarding of lighted matches and other things likely to cause fire;
This will apply to:-
- Land to which the public or any section of the public has access, on payment or otherwise, as of right or by virtue of express or implied permission; and
- Land which is in the open air and is:
- listed in Schedule 1 of this Order;
- access land within the meaning of Part 1 of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000,
- Restricted byway within the meaning of section 48 of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000,
- cycle track, footpath or bridleway within the meaning of section 329 of the Highways Act 1980, or
- highway over which the public have a right of way for vehicular and all other kinds of traffic, but which is used by the public mainly for the purpose for which footpaths and bridleways are so use
- This will include areas such as land within the Peak District National Park, Chatsworth, Dovedale, Longshaw and Stanton Moor.

2025 - 2028 Dog Control Order
The Order means that it is an offence to not clear up after your dog on any land that is open to the public whether it be public or private land. Dog walkers should carry something to collect their dog mess such as poo bags or a carrier bag - we encourage you to use degradable bags where possible. If your dog makes a mess in a public place, please pick up the mess in your bag, seal it and dispose of it in a dog waste bin, litter bin or take it home to put in your domestic waste bin.
There are also some other controls for dogs to be kept on leads in some places, lead by direction in some places and dogs are excluded from some places such as children’s play areas.

The Parks and Open Spaces Order 2025 has the following restrictions:
BBQs and Open Fires and Alcohol Control (the control means that a person must stop drinking alcohol if asked to by a Police Officer, Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) or District Council Enforcement staff).

Fixed Penalty Notices
Anyone breaching any of the restrictions of the Public Spaces Protection Orders may be issued a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN). The notice is for £100 in which you have 14 days to make payment, this is reduced if paid within 12 days of recieving the Notice. If payment is not made within 14 days, you may be prosecuted for the offence the Notice has been issued for. If convicted, you could receive a much larger fine these are outlined below
- Dog Controls - £1,000
- Camping - £1,000
- Parking and Driving - £1,000
- Alcohol - £500
- BBQs and Open Fires - £1,000
- Littering - £2,500
